Group Leader Tudor C. Badea, MD, MA, PhD

Dr. Badea trained as a medical doctor at the “Iuliu Haţieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, before continuing his academic training in the United States, where he earned an MA from Columbia University and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at HHMI/Johns Hopkins University and led an independent research group for 11 years at the National Eye Institute (NIH). Since September 2021, he has served as Senior Investigator at Transylvania University, and since June 2022, he has been a member of the Brain Research Center of the Romanian Academy.

His research spans molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience, ophthalmology, pathology, and immunology. He brings more than 11 years of experience leading teams of students, fellows, and technical staff in the study of visual development and function, with particular expertise in genetic manipulation, animal models, tissue culture, and behavioral analysis.
